Vacuum Extraction

Childbirth is a momentous occasion and sometimes, assistance may be needed to ensure the safe delivery of your baby. In certain situations, vacuum extraction may be recommended as a safe and effective method to aid in the birthing process.

Vacuum extraction is done to assist in the delivery of a baby when natural progression is not occurring. It is one of the methods available, alongside Forceps delivery and c-section with surgery typically being considered as a last resort. By utilizing vacuum extraction or forceps delivery, our experts have alternative options to aid laboring mothers before resorting to a c-section.

Both vacuum extraction and forceps delivery offer advantages and disadvantages that are comparable. The choice between them often relies on the experience of your doctor. And that is why it’s important to note that both methods carry certain risks; however, at Rhea IVF & Women’s Hospital, we recommend their use when the potential risks of not intervening outweigh the risks associated with the procedures. Such situations may arise when either the mother or the baby is experiencing prolonged labor.
